Weekly Update - Lore Stuff
3 years ago487 words
Not much to show this week, just some mentions of plans etc. I did some art of the Alora Fane races though!
I've mostly been working on some story and general concept stuff this week. I've decided on a lot of names for lore concepts I've been indecisive about for a while! I posted in more detail on
∞ my Patreon ∞ earlier in the week, but I've also been working on updating the Lore page on this site (for my own benefit mostly; I doubt many other people will ever see it). I was hoping to be done in an afternoon so I could talk about it in this post, but I got carried away with the
∞ CSS ∞ of the layout and haven't done yet! Hopefully I'll have it done by next weekend and will replace the current empty placeholder with the new version then.
I did draw art for each of Alora Fane's races though; from left to right:
- Bold (Courage)
- Meek (Fear; formerly Bliss)
- Lucen (Creation)
- Sindrels (Sorrow)
- Elarna (Destruction; first time showing them)
- Varnyn (Bliss)
The lore page will include bigger versions of these and a bit of info about each one.
I also came across this game called
∞ Omno ∞, which was released this week. Seems decent enough, in that distinctly indie game way (these games always remind me of Journey). I'll probably play it when I'm done with Kingdom Hearts (I'm just finishing off the many optional superbosses now).
I'm mentioning it because it's by a solo dev (apart from the music, which I consider a crucial part of the experience but seem to be unusual for that??), and he spent
five years or so working on it. He did
∞ a Kickstarter for it in 2018 or 2019, which earned around €100,000 ∞... and which shifted its predicted release date many times over the past couple of years. Things take time!!
Mania also mentioned in a comment on last week's post that Undertale took about 32 months - so almost three years - to finish.
I've been thinking a lot lately about how long I've spent on Atonal Dreams so far, and how far off completion still feels. I planned to use this post to look back through the entire development, summarising what I did each month... but - shockingly - compiling such a post was rather draining and time-consuming!
So what I might do instead is make a separate page with brief monthly summaries, at some point, so we can see how long this has taken without having to dig up one blog post among many. I'll need to find some time to actually do that though!
